Biography
Abū Yūsuf was a distinguished Islamic jurist and a prominent disciple of Abū Ḥanīfah, the founder of the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence. He played a crucial role in the development and dissemination of Hanafi jurisprudence across the Islamic world. His most notable contribution was his work on Islamic finance and commercial law, which is encapsulated in his book, Kitab al-Kharaj, a pioneering text that laid the foundations for fiscal fiqh. His expertise was sought after by the Abbasid Caliph, which led to the institutionalization of the Hanafi school as a major legal authority.
