Biography

Butrus Bustani was a Lebanese intellectual and scholar. He is best known for his efforts in promoting education and enlightenment in the Arab world. Bustani founded the first Arabic-language newspaper in Lebanon, paving the way for the development of Arabic journalism. He also established one of the first secular schools in the Middle East, which welcomed students from various religious backgrounds. His most notable work includes the first comprehensive Arabic encyclopedia, which aimed to bridge the knowledge gap between the East and the West.
