Biography

Ḥaǧǧī Ḫalīfa, Kātib Čelebī, a distinguished Ottoman scholar and historian, made significant contributions to the fields of geography, history, and bibliographical literature. He is best known for his monumental work, 'Kashf al-Ẓunūn 'an Asāmī al-Kutub wa-al-Funūn' (The Removal of Doubt from the Names of Books and the Arts), an extensive bibliographical encyclopedia that catalogs thousands of Arabic, Persian, and Turkish manuscripts.
