Biography
Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab was a religious leader and theologian from Najd, in present-day Saudi Arabia. He is best known for founding the Islamic reform movement that sought to purify Islam by returning to what he believed were its original principles as practiced by the Prophet Muhammad and his companions. This movement emphasized the importance of Tawhid (the oneness of God), and vehemently opposed shirk (the association of partners with God) and bid'ah (innovations in religion). His works include 'Kitab al-Tawhid' and 'Kashf al-Shubuhat', which articulate his theological and legal positions.
