Biography

Leo Africanus was a notable 16th-century traveler and writer known for his detailed accounts of the geography and cultures of North Africa. His most famous work, 'Description of Africa,' provides valuable insights into the region during his time. Captured by pirates and presented to Pope Leo X, he converted to Christianity and integrated into European scholarly circles. Africanus's writings offered Europeans one of their earliest comprehensive views of the African continent, encompassing detailed descriptions of its cities, peoples, and natural landscapes.
