Mahmud Abu Rayya was an Egyptian Islamic scholar known for his critical analysis of hadith literature. He authored 'Adwa' ala al-Sunnah al-Muhammadiyya,' a book that sparked considerable debate among Islamic scholars. In this work, he scrutinized the authenticity of several hadiths traditionally accepted in mainstream Islamic thought, advocating for a return to the Quran and the authentic Sunnah as primary sources of Islamic jurisprudence and belief.
