Biography
Nasir al-Din al-Tusi was a polymath who made significant contributions to various fields including astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, and medicine. He is best known for his work in astronomy where he authored the 'Tadhkira fi'ilm al-hay'a', a comprehensive treatise on the then-current understanding of the cosmos. His efforts in mathematics led to the development of trigonometry as a separate field. Additionally, his philosophical works, particularly those dealing with ethics and metaphysics, were influential. Al-Tusi also played a crucial role in the establishment of the Maragha observatory, where he supervised and conducted astronomical research.
