Biography

Qusṭā b. Lūqā was a Christian scholar of Greek origin, who made significant contributions to the fields of medicine, mathematics, and astronomy. Fluent in both Arabic and Greek, he played a crucial role in the translation movement in Baghdad, transferring much of the Greek philosophical and scientific knowledge to the Arabic-speaking world. Among his notable works are treatises on geometry and logic, as well as commentaries on Euclid's Elements. His efforts in translating and commenting on medical texts also contributed greatly to the Islamic Golden Age's scientific advancements.
