Raqqam Basri, originally named Muhammad ibn Imran al-Abdi, was a distinguished calligrapher from Basra. He earned his nickname 'Raqqam' due to his exceptional skill in the art of calligraphy, particularly in the Kufic script. His work was highly regarded for its precision and beauty, making him a sought-after scribe for manuscripts. Among his contributions, he is noted for his collaboration with the lexicographer Ibn Duraid, providing the calligraphy for some of his works. His mastery in calligraphy set standards in the craft, influencing the aesthetics of Islamic manuscript production.
