Ṯābit ibn Qurra was a distinguished mathematician, astronomer, and physician. His work on conic sections and the theory of numbers laid foundational stones for future mathematicians. In astronomy, he improved upon Ptolemy's theories and was instrumental in developing the theory of the trepidation of the equinoxes.
